Mobile Gaming Rules Tokyo Game Show

At this year’s Tokyo Game Show one thing is perfectly clear, mobile is King. From iOS & Android or 3DS & Vita, these games dominated the show. Everywhere you went there was an exhibitor, both larger and small, looking to promote their latest mobile game. In fact, the largest booth at this year’s TGS belonged to GranBlue Fantasy, which is a smart phone RPG. Take a look at this chart to see just to see how prominent they were this year (and last).

You might be asking yourself why? First off, there is the “commuter train lifestyle” that exists in large population centers like Tokyo. When you are riding the train to-and-fro everyday, a mobile game, on either your phone or handheld, is a great way to pass the time. Secondly, and more importantly, there is an obscene amount of money to be made, especially with mobile gaming on smart phones. We’ve talked about this fairly recently in fact. When a game like Puzzles & Dragons can bring as much $4million a day, why would you not want a piece of that money?
